And because we are exposed to so much info what we throw away is far more important than what we keep. Keep the valid and shit can the bologna. Conspiracy theories are a great form of intellectual laziness. Why learn all about that complex shit involving plate tectonics and how it causes earthquakes, or try and wrap your mind around what High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) exactly is. Why do that when you can visit a conspiracy site or worst view a YouTube video and have an intriguing plot sold to you in simple child like terms complete with ominous music, “There are coming to get you!”. Everyone like a spooky story.

In the conspiracy loon world one conspiracy theory is as good as the next and people who embrace one seem to be prone to believe them all. Tell me this, How is it they can think the US has the power to induce earthquakes thousand of miles away but think we can’t land a man on the Moon? It was no surprise the idea Haiti earthquake was a US secret operation was picked up by a fair number of 9/11 truthers.

In real science there is a thing called consensus of opinion. In biological science evolution has overwhelming consensus that it is true, living organisms do evolve even to the point of creating new species. The consensus of opinion in the structural engineering community is that fires in the World Trand Centers combined with structural damage from being struck by large aircraft going 450MPH caused the towers to collapse. And this idea had held water for over 10 years.

The biggest logical falicy used by both is the old “I don’t know what happened”, the old arguing from ignorance. It’s one of the laziest of tactics and also very cowardly, it requires not taking a defined stand, when proven wrong the holder can simple brush it off by saying ” I didn’t say that I was just questioning”.

The quality of the expert is important, a biological scientist with a proven history of reasearch in the study of evolution is going to take precedence over a professor of theology. The opinion of a structural engineer like Leslie Robertson is going to have great weight over an architect like Richard Gage who as far as anyone can tell has never designed a building over one story. While Robertson actually designed the structural elements of the WTC among other large buildings, the proof of his expertise is in what he has acually done not what he said he did.

In the Oliver Stone film JFK Kevin Costner plying the part of New Orleans Jim Garrison screens the Zapruder film to a jury, pausing and rewinding to show the direction that Kennedy’s head appears to move. As he does this, he repeats the phrase, “back, and to the left”, trying to prove the location of the alleged second gunman. It’s a powerful bit of pop culture propaganda, but does it mean anything true?

What you probably don’t know is in Nov. 2008 a team of experts assembled by the Discovery Channel has recreated the assassination of  Kennedy. Using modern blood spatter analysis, artificial human body surrogates and 3-D computer simulations.  In the end the team determined that the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository was the most likely origin of the shot that killed the president. Once again some smart ass scientist ruin a perfectly good conspiracy theory.

The team created the most advanced artificial human heads in the world for the ballistic tests. The heads have three different materials which simulate the brain, skull and external skin, that together respond to the trauma the same way a human head would. The position of the people in the limousine were created exactly, the same sort of rifle was used as was the distance fired. Test shots were also done from the grassy knoll, and four other plausible locations. BUT Only the shot from the six floor school book location matched the actual physical evidence from that day.

This is not the first time some scientist had done experiments looking at the movement of a human head when shot from behind. Richard Trott used melons to show the exit of the bullet creates a ”jet effect” phenomenon that drove the melons back towards the gun shot. Dr. John Lattimer reproduced Trott’s results with human skulls.  All of them showed the ”Back and to the Left” movement that conspiracy theorist love to recite as a religious mantra, it’s like the free-fall chant of the 9/11 truthers, say it long and loud and perhaps it will become true.

But just a look at his web site http://www.jimmarrs.com/ and you see a loony who pimps everything from Obama paranoia to UFOs from Mars.  While Vincent bugliosi (yes the Charles Manson prosecutor) Reclaiming History: The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy which defends the Warren Commission’s conclusion is not exactly flying off the shelves, and it’s the most authoritative book on the subject. Same with Case Closed by Gerald Posner. Posner is well respected as a researcher and writer of everything from Mengele to Motown. It’s is fun to read the conspiracy theorist frothing at the mouth in the Amazon reviews over these two books, you would think you pissed on their god, But to the conspiracy theorist types this is a religion, once you drink the Kool-Aid and worshipped at the alter of fashionable pseudo-skepticism it’s hard to say you were duped by a pop culture fad.

They also claim that it can be demonstrated by the fact that multiple aircraft may be seen at the same time, with some leaving trails and others do not forgetting altitude matters, a jet flying higher or lower may be in a jet stream with very different temperature and humidity, an aircraft flying only slightly higher can produce a contrail and the lower aircraft none.

You don’t have to look to far to find pictures of WWII aircraft leaving contrails. so are we to believe the US and England sprayed Germany with chemicals? In a recent article in New Scientist researchers found the extra water vapor released into the air over England with the formation of larger bomber groups may have had a small effect on local temperatures, but the effect is small and would involve larger numbers of aircraft flying in close assembled formations. Any effect vapor trails would come only from the blocking of sunlight and even then it would be negligible.

You will also notice these “Chemtrails” are more likely to form when you see Cirrus clouds.  Atmospheric clouds that are characterized by thin, wispy strands, often bunched into tufts very much like contrails.

The one thing the conspiracy theorist never want to address is the old critical thinkers question of  WHY? If you wanted to distribute some mind altering drug WHY do it at 2000 feet when doing it at much lower altitudes would work much more effectively. WHY use a chemical that leaves a trail at all? Gasses do not need to be seen to work you know.

The other question is HOW?  These trails obviously come from passenger aircraft, seen it myself, so HOW do you get the passenger service to go along with this? Why don’t you see passenger aircraft mechanics questioning chemical spraying equipment in their jets?

We live in a nation that believes in the cult of personality, that the view of an actor or rap artist on 9/11 is of the same value as real experts, actual structural engineers what have actually designed skyscraper.

So here Gary rambles on about how “They” are taking god out of America. At the end you see Jim Marrs, a nut who thinks aliens are visiting earth and JFK was not shot by Oswald.

He has used the cardboard box comparison in his lectures since the summer of 2008. He drops a smaller box of cardboard on top of a taller box of cardboard. Unsurprisingly, the taller cardboard box taking the hit does not give in to the dropping box. In his other hand he holds another small cardboard box and drops it straight to the ground. He does all this to make the point, that the WTC towers should have resisted or stopped the collapse. Of course if you are smarter than the average truther (and who isn’t), you know the towers didn’t fall at free fall or without resistance. But this is exactly the kind of stuff that appeal to the brain dead morons who make up the truther community. Unfortunately for them it is also the type of thing that people who do understand physics snicker at. You are more likely to see this demonstration from “Box Boy Gage” being show on debunking sites because it proves the mans ignorance of physics.

BUT…. This from the Washington Post’s paints a very different picture. This was referring to flight 93. Mineta did not know this and assumed it was flight 77 which had already hit the Pentagon.

So the order was NOT to stand down, but to ENGAGE.

It takes a special sort of moron to be a truther

How utterly devoid of any form of thinking ability do you need to be to buy the often sighted 9/11 conspiracy theorist idea that some or all of the 19 9/11 hijackers are still alive?

This so called proof of US involvement got it’s start in a simple erroneous report by the BBC. The BBC reported the names of what they believed to be some of the hijackers. Some people with the same names were later discovered to be alive, a fact that was seized upon by 9/11 conspiracy theorists as proof that the hijackings were faked. These were very common Arabic and Islamic names and the BBC acknowledged these were simple cases of mistaken identity. According to John Bradley, the former managing editor of Arab News in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the only public information about the hijackers was a list of names issued by the FBI on September 14, 2001. When the FBI released photographs four days after the cited reports on September 27, the mistaken identities were quickly resolved. But because truthers have so little real proof of US involvement in the attacks you still hear them pimping this nonsense even today.

But my point in the entire affair is one of  pure logic and the application of critical thinking. Even if you didn’t know of the mistaken BBC report why would you believe what the conspiracy theorist tell you?  Think about it… if the hijackers are alive why would you NOT see some news organization unfriendly to the USA displaying these men for all the world to see?  Iranian TV would be more than happy to prove USAs involvement in 9/11 if they could, but you have to believe they do not for some unknown reason. Well maybe they can’t because the hijackers are all dead. This alone would tell you what the truther are selling you is bullshit.

The other issue again come from purely critical thinking perspective. GET THIS! the conspiracy theorist want you to buy the idea that in planing this big false flag operation the US government created the terrorist they would ultimately blame for the attacks on the identities of real people living in the middle east! People who would be alive after 9/11.  As if …. the US could not simply manufacture fake terrorist with passports, drivers licenses, pictures and all other documentation needed. The US could have their own people play the terrorist and check into flight schools and show an ability to fly large passenger jets. These fake terrorist could leave all kinds of clues linking the government of Iran to the attack. And unlike the real hijackers they would not be Saudi citizens but Iranians or Afghanis, I mean, isn’t that the whole ideas of the operation the truthers want you to buy, the US did 9/11 to justify war with Iran and Afghanistan? So why not make your fake terrorist fit the people you want to attack?

One would have to have a room temperature IQ to believe these conspiracy “proofs”. Their conspiracy theorist ideas don’t pass the sniff test for bullshit. And that is something you learn quickly when dealing with conspiracy theorist, these people are not very bright, they’re  people who are easily conned, easily fooled and very much influenced by hype. The biggest of the 9/11 conspiracy theorist groups is ”ae911truth” Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, started by and architect Richard Gage, note like many in his group he is just an architect which has little to do with the all important issue of structural strength of buildings, and more to do with design and ergonomics. In fact none of its members seem to be members of respected engineering groups.   The American Society of Civil Engineers is the largest group dedicated to the engineering and safety of large buildings and structures. Over 76.000 members and I can’t find one of Gages’s gaggle who is a part of this organization. Maybe it’s because if you go to ASCE you won’t find discussions or papers on controlled demolition of the WTC, they deal with the real issue of how fire affected the twin towers. It seems ae911truth is a group who put on a good show of being informed engineering professionals but are nothing more than third rate architects playing structural engineers to push an agenda of conspiratorial thinking.

Ae911truth has about 1400 members. If you consider the individuals you will find electrical engineers, software designers, landscapers etc. The number with relevant expertise and experience to high rise construction is about zero. You see the same with creationist groups, few respected biological scientist and lots of teachers of theology and other non-hard science occupations. In fact I bet you can find more structural engineers signing papers supporting intelligent design than supporting 9/11 truth.

This is the laziest of the conspiracy theorist thinking, one does not need to present hard facts to well composed logic, ignorance is enough and creationist and truthers are real good at doing ignorance.

All these super mileage devices are popular urban myths. Supposedly the automakers and Big Oil won’t allow them to come to market because they’d wreck the industry. As if the auto companies really care what happens to the oil companies. The people who tell you this are usually conspiracy mavens who offer it as an example of how the masses are duped by the Illuminati or some other big bad entity. you do have to be skeptical. Right now oil companies are regarded very lowly by the general public with BP screwing up the Gulf and all. With that the conspiracy theorist has a perfect boogie man to use to sell their scams to a gullible public. It’s far easier to blame a faceless daemon than really study the issue with a critical eye. And lets face it, it is a complex technological issue that to understand requires an understanding of things like Thermodynamics and energy conservation. If you do not understand the technical issues than you can be sold the idea that some extraordinary device can take a car that gets 30MPG and by installing it make the same car get 200MPG. AND here is the most ridiculous part…. the conspiracy theorist sell the idea that auto companies would not use this technology simply because the oil companies or the government said not to. Fact is the auto companies are hurting right now and you bet your life GM would use it, if not they know Ford would, and if not Ford, Toyota or Honda. Something like a 200MPG device could never be suppressed, the value would be far to great. Government could not stop it, what are they going to do, take an auto maker to court for making something a majority of the public wants? The reason you do not see such devices is the simple fact ‘They do NOT work”, no one has been able to make it work or demonstrate it is even feasible.

The internal combustion engine does a good job of burning the fuel you put into it, and there is little you can do to the fuel to make that better. It’s just the thermal efficiency of an internal combustion engine is not very good, much of the energy produced is not used to propel the car, it’s lost as heat energy. Just feel the hood of your car or the radiator, all that heat is just being pumped into the air. Things like turbo chargers can take some of that heat and use it to compress the fuel air mixture for more power and improved mileage but it’s small.

Real high mileage is never the result of a single miraculous component, such as a carburetor. Carburetors in general are an obsolete technology now being replaced by computer controlled electronic fuel injection, which offers superior emission control and better gas mileage. Truth is carbs are the equivalent of the buggy whip. Getting high mileage is sum of numerous small improvements. Among these are lightweight materials, small light car require less energy to move, low-friction tires, improved aerodynamics, flywheels to store and reuse energy now lost during braking, and “ultra-lean-burn” engines for more efficient city driving. The theoretical (and yet unobtainable) maximum efficiency for a small car like a Honda Civic could be around 200 mpg, BUT, for your big beaters it’s going to be much lower. This won’t come from “blue-collar ingenuity”, some backyard mechanic with a magical carburetor. Claims to the contrary are fraudulent. Want to get 200MPG, you will need a very small car, maybe only two seater, very light with maybe a small turbo charged diesel engine, and, no Carburetor. The reason you don’t see these cars is not because of a giant conspiracy but because the American public won’t buy these cars, they still want SUVs and pick-up trucks.

Not knowing your grade school science and the concept that the refraction of light on water droplets form rainbows makes those rainbows “A Miracle”. “blow your brain,” from “the Milky Way and fucking shooting stars” to “long-necked giraffes” to “fucking rainbows.” The biggest punch line in the video is when one of these Bozos exclaims “Fucking magnets, how do they work?”  WOW! Imaging being proud of the fact you don’t know this, and so proud of it to but it in a video for all to see.

Sad to say but NOT knowing shit has become very popular with a certain segment of society.  You see it in hillbilly types who will shun “Book learn’en” and their polar opposites Rappers. The deeply religious are finding their precious bible stories of creation and Adam and Eve being relegated to quaint  bed time stories by the science of evolution and cosmology.  So it becomes a situation of not knowing these cold enlightened studies and accepting the warm folktales.

Writing stuff off as a miracle is a form of intellectual laziness.  If something shooting stars is too hard for you to understand and would require reading a book or forgoing the entertainment of a latest music video to find out they’re  chunks of rock heated to blazing temperatures by the friction of the atmosphere as they’re  pulled towards the Earth, why take the trouble?  Write it off as a great mystery.

This kind of crap happen in the 60s, communist, socialist and Marxist infiltrated the anti Viet Nam war protesters and far to many peaceniks were too politically correct to ask them to leave, it would not be groovy.  I remember when the Beatles came out with a song that made the statement “If you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao, you ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow”  the radical left were up in arms, how dare John Lennon point out the obvious, leftist politics doesn’t have anything to do with peace. in fact some of these radicals were promoting quite violent actions. Sheehan seems to be overly gullible and too full of that 60s none judgemental mentality.  Sorry but sometimes you do need to make a judgment, sometimes you do need to tell the guy in the tin foil hat he is a kook and a detriment to the cause. Being overly influenced by conspiracy theories does make you a lover of peace, it makes you a sucker.
