1967 STP Turbine Indy 500 Car
The 1960′s were decade of innovation at the Indianapolis 500. In 63 European car builders showed the old guard that light mid engines cars were the way to go. By 67 no front engine cars made it into the race. The 1967 race was almost won by this STP sponsored car with a side mounted Turbine power plant. The car being driven by Parnelli Jones dominated the field but with only 3 laps to go a $6 bearing failed allowing AJ Foyt to win his third 500.

The Lotus 38 was the model number of the car driven by Jimmy Clark at the 1965 Indy 500. By winning the race that year car builder Lotus and Lotus designer Colin Chapman, along with engine builder Ford proved the superiority of a light mid engine car over the heavy front engine roadsters that were common at Indy in the early 60s.
