A Gulf Porsche 917K was entered by McQueen’s Solar Productions The racecar was driven by Jo Siffert and Brian Redman, McQueen wanted to run the race himself with co-driver Jackie Stewart even acquiring a “International driver’s license” but due to insurance reason he could not enter, film backers threatened to pull their support if he did.
