tyrrell_6wheel This mid 70s formula one  car used specially manufactured 10-inch diameter wheels and tyres at the front  in a set of four, with two ordinary sized wheels at the back. The idea of the four smaller front tyres was to increase air penetration and have a smaller ‘frontal area’ which would reduce drag, four tires kept the same rubber to road contact area.
